Members of the just inaugurated Cross River State House of Assembly have duely voted and unanimously elected Eteng Jonah Williams, popularly known as E. J. Williams, a third term member of the CRS House of Assembly representing Yakurr II State Constituency, as the Speaker of the new Assembly, www.calitown.com can reveal.
While speculations had been rife about a possible power tussle in the new House, for this position, our reporter on the grounds of the CRS House of Assembly, reports that there appears to have been a consensus in place to elect Williams as Speaker.
A former Deputy Leader of the House, Chairman of the powerful House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Vice Chairman House Committee on Business and Rules, Member, House Committee on Public Accounts, as well as member House Committee on Health Service, Women Affairs, Social Welfare and Gender Development, Eteng holds a Master Degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar.
He has vast administrative working experience in Administration, having worked as Head of Administration with Jones-Tech International Limited, a consulting, building and construction firm based in Lagos, for more than 25 years.
The new Speaker also worked with the Office of the Organization of African Unity, OAU, Chairman’s Office, in the Documentation Unit at the Presidency where he successfully headed a team charged with putting together the “OAU Abuja 91 Commemorative handbook”. This handbook which contains the activities of various speeches of Heads of State and Presidents Members Africa countries during the OAU submit, in Abuja 1991, is one testament in many, demonstrating his competence.
Widely travelled, the Mkpani, Yakurr Local Government Area born legislator is married to Imaobong and the marriage is blessed with three children.
