Arthur Jarvis University, the first functional private university in Cross River State, has announced the appointment of a new vice chancellor.
In a memo dated October 2, 2023 and signed by the university’s registrar, Mary Efiom Dan-Abia, authorities of the institution named renowned Professor of Chemistry, Benedict Iserom Ita, as the new VC.
Ita, a foremost Professor of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, was born on April 10, 1967, in Aningeje, Akamkpa LGA, Cross River State. He began his education at the Presbyterian Primary School, Akim Qua Town, Calabar, obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate in 1979, proceeding thereafter to the Immaculate Conception Seminary, Mfamosing, Akamkpa, successfully obtaining a General Certificate of Education, GCE, in 1984. He proceeded to the University of Calabar, Unical, for his higher education and earning a B. Sc. (1989), an M. Sc. (1994) and a Ph.D (2000) respectively, in Physical Chemistry.
Widely respected in the academic world for his research contributions in the areas of Corrosion/Electrochemistry, Nanomaterials and Applications, Partial Differential Equations, Relativistic and Non-Relativistic Quantum Mechanical Equations, evidenced in three quality textbooks and over one hundred journal publications, he has served the University of Calabar as Head, of the Department of Chemistry, Chairman, Central Time Table Committee; President, Senior Staff Club; as well as Pioneer Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Calabar. A husband, father, and Knight of St. Mulumba, Ita brings an outstanding wealth of academic, social, and administrative experiences that should ideally help him consolidate and birth new innovations and reforms as the third vice chancellor of the institution.
