Sources within government circles have advanced reasons why the Board of the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service was sacked.
Particularly, one source pointed calitown.com to the mass transfer in the IRS that the Board oversaw. That transfer reportedly sent 200 staff away from the IRS to other ministeries in the state in circumstances many consider vindictive, with only one member of staff returning after a barrage of protests.
Furthermore, when insiders sought to know from the Board what informed the mass transfer, sources say the Board alleged that those transfered were unproductive. Unconfirmed reports even say that the Head of Service’s directive that the transfers should be halted, was ignored and instead, “they employed their friends, relations and cronies without relevant experience and posted them all to the headquarters”, a source said.
“Even when staff who had approached the director cadre were waiting, they were sent out and people were employed and made directors with little or no experience to boss people who were more qualified and had more experience”, one source submitted.
On the issue of imprest to the Board, calitown.com was informed that “these people were just sharing imprest like bread without doing their work, seeing that this financial recklessness was in place, others in the service took a cue and started tampering with funds”.
As at press time, staff at the IRS were still discussing the events before, after and those leading up to the Board’s sacking.
