Following his recent appointment as Acting Rector of the Institute of Technology and Management, Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area and subsequent assumption of duty, Austin Angba, a Professor of Agriculture, has exclusively told www.calitowm.com that he has a committed crop of men and women on the ground that will help him work at ensuring that the plans Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, has for the institution, see the light of day.
Angba who spoke during an interactive session with www.calitown.com, added that, it was unfair for any person or group of persons to speculate that government intends to shut down the institution, after such a huge investment. “This is an institution that has 24-hour wi-f; used for e-learning, water and light, round the clock and state of the art facilities. No sane person will dump all of these for no just cause”, he said.
On the submission that the fee charged students by the institution is on the high side, the rector differed. Hear him, “…not many higher institutions in Nigeria have the facilities we have with school fee at about N150, 000 to N200, 00 (one hundred and fifty to two hundred thousand naira). Those institutions charge close to a million naira, without the kind of facilities and staff we have. It is my responsibility now to work and increase student in-take without lowering standards and then ensure that ITM becomes an enviable, self-sustaining institution which will readily come to the minds of Nigerians when they want quality education for their children”.
He again informed that state governor, Ben Ayade, has given approval for the release of funds to clear the backlog of salaries owed staff of the institution, while also thanking the state governor for having faith in his capacity and appointing him rector.
