With 2063 valid votes, Venatius Ikem, was this evening duly elected as the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Cross River State in the party’s congress conducted in Calabar.
The former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, is believed to have endured a torrid political time in the run in to this election. His ambition to lead the party is one of the reasons state governor, Ben Ayade, jumped ship, party sources informed www.calitown.com
In his acceptance speech this evening, Ikem gave God all the glory as he trod the path to this victory. He told a large crowd of party faithful that: “This day is here at last. God’s time is indeed the best. God was at work throughout this experience. People who said that I can only be Chairman of the PDP in this state, over their dead bodies, have since left the party. The National Assembly caucus of the PDP…adopted me miraculously and to my surprise and I am aware that the significant roles they have played so far will shape 2023. This experience has taught me to rededicate myself to the ideals of this party. Let me I assure you…I will be 57 in a few days time and to all those who have expressed sentiments about my way of doing things; I will start acting my age.”
He is expected to lead the political charge as the PDP regroups to challenge for control of the state in 2023.
