Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, has directed contractors handling contracts at the Cross River State Institute of Technology and Management, Ugep, to deliver all jobs on or before October this year so the school can take off on the 28th of October, 2013.
Imoke gave the directive in Ugep, at the ground breaking ceremony of the institution. He pointed out that the directive has become necessary so that the state can begin to shore up her middle level and technical manpower to meet the needs of high profile investments coming into the state.
It is this need, he further informed, that has influenced the industry-demand driven curriculum of the institution and its affiliation to the Highbury College, the largest college in Portsmouth, England, providing vocational and academic education and training from first step courses to university level foundation as well as specialized services for business and education.
He enjoined Ugep, the host community, to partner with government and ensure that the institution becomes a success.
Reacting to the ceremony with happiness, the member representing Yakurr I State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Mfawa Ofegobi, told calitown.com that “the institution was indeed a dream come true and a transforming opportunity for the Yakurr Nation”. Ofegobi thanked His Excellency, Sen. Liyel Imoke, for birthing the project and expressed optimism that the project will be seen through.
The hugely successful occasion had in attendance the Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr, Obol Ubi Ujong Inah, top government functionaries, distinguished sons and daughters of the area and captains of industry.
