For the Akparabong community in Ikom Local Government Area and their Bendeghe Ekim neighbours in Etung Local Government Area, Cross River central, these are not the best of times as both communities are presently engaged in a communal clash, www.calitown.com has been informed.
Sources in the area say the communal clash is tied to a disagreement over a parcel of land. The fued has so far resulted in the burning of houses and several persons abandoning their homes in both communities. We were again informed that certain people in Bendeghe Ekim believe their Akparabong neighbours may be banking on the connections and influence of their prominent son, former Senate Leader and Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, chairman, Victor Ndoma-Egba, may see them assert their position in the conflict. But an aide of Ndoma-Egba who spoke with us over the phone is insisting that “it is completely out of place to think that Victor Ndoma-Egba can be dragged into this conflict. They will try but they can never reduce his national frame to a communal warlord. He cannot be associated with something as negative as a conflict between two communities that share so much in common. What does he have to gain, nothing”.
Prominent sons and daughters from both communities are believed to be neck deep in negotiations to avert what is an unfortunate situation, www.calitown.com was told.
