Tragedy struck late Thursday evening in Ebom, Abi Local Government Area as an appointee of Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, believed to be the Chairman of the Cross River State Salary and Nominal Roll Board, was matcheted to death, sources in the community have informed www.calitown.com. He was locally known within the community as Sir Tom Okina.
The suspected assailant who is the Peoples Democratic Party youth leader in the area, appears to have been angered by an affair he suspected his estranged wife was having with the deceased. “We suspect that the woman left her marriage because of the supposed affair she was having with the deceased. She left his house and moved back into her family house and somehow was emboldened to have the affair and was sleeping in our late friend’s house in the village, whenever he comes home. When our youth leader heard that our late friend came home and went to the farm, he quickly grabbed his matchet and secretly headed to the farm where he accosted and inflicted serious matchet cuts on our friend. He then came home, grabbed his own little son and fled the village. We were unable to save our friend as he bled to death from the cuts”, our source said.
Presently, community members are in shock, even at a loss as they come to terms with the tragedy. The Police in the area www.calitown.com was informed have stepped in and are on the trail of the suspect while the corpse awaits burial because of its mangled state.
