People suspected to be thieves on Sunday night, raided the state secretariat of the Labour Party in Cross River State, making away with sensitive party documents and the plasma television in the office of the party chairman, www.calitown.com can report. It was clear that the thieves scaled the perimetre fence and entered the secretariat, located on First Avenue, State Housing Estate, Calabar, as footprints at the scene of the crime showed.
In the state chairman’s office, access was gained after the thieves forcefully pulled out a wide glass on the aluminium partitioning. Men of the State Housing Police station, just metres away from the secretariat, were only called in after workers at the secretariat resumed and discovered that the crime has been committed. Unfortunately, www.calitown.com discovered in the course of investigations that the thieves capitalised on the fact that the secretariat has no overnight security. Party officials are thought to be kicking themselves in the groin for not putting overnight security in place.
While no arrests have been made, insider sources told www.calitown.com that “we suspect this to be a crime committed by a few persons who have insider access to this place”. No arrests have been made at the time og going to press, even though well placed party members of the party are keeping sealed lips, preferring to leave the matter with the police who have since swung into action.
