Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, John Gaul Lebo, today flagged off a free medicare outreach for his Abi constituents as a direct commitment to help tackle the poor state of health among his people.
The Speaker at the ocassion promised that the medical outreach which will last for ten days, will be taken to all the wards in Abi LGA. Those whose medical cases need specialist care he disclosed, will have the free medicare extended so that conclusive medical care can be dispensed to help restore them to good health.
Jones Williams, member representing Yakurr II State Constituency in the House of Assembly, appealed to the Speaker to extend the free medicare to neighboring Yakurr, a plea Nelson Ofem, member representing Yakurr I State Constituency, who also accompanied the Speaker to the occasion, followed up with. Lebo, bowing to pressure from his colleagues, accepted to extend the service to Yakurr and pledged to do more in furtherance of his social responsibility to the people.
An elated Ovai Edward Osim, village head of Usumutong and Paramount Ruler of Abi LGA, thanked the Speaker for the gesture and promised that information about the free medicare programme will be properly disseminated to the people of the area.
Speaking exclusively with www.calitown.com, Lebo said it has taken him this long to put this together because he wanted to put in place a fool proof exercise which will have maximum effect on the people.
Several persons from the mammoth crowd at the School of Nursing, Itigidi, venue of the flag off, praised Lebo’s initiative and prayed that God will grant him the grace to do more.
