What can bring the likes of veteran broadcaster Olisa Adibua, the ever-stylish Derenle Edun, musical legend 2Baba, social media influencer, Calabar Chic, Dele Kadiri of Boomplay, DJ Lisa Li from France and regular you and me to a round table discussion?
You may have seen the billboard, heard the jingle or watched the advert; however it is, you definitely know something big is coming to Calabar, Cross River State.
Organized by HIT 95.9 FM, Calabar, the Calabar Entertainment Conference, CEC, the biggest round table entertainment discussion in the South-South of Nigeria, is back in its fifth year.
At the conference, we will be focusing on discovering, rebranding and redefining the entertainment industry in the region and the country at large. Inspired by the need to boost the entertainment sector within which it operates, the masterminds behind HIT 95.9 FM, decided to augment the regular government entertainment events in the state with something exquisitely productive that the entertainment industry in the region can thrive on; this in simple terms was what birthed the Calabar Entertainment Conference, CEC.
Over the last four years, CEC has become an extra-ordinary one stop platform where entertainment lovers learn, upscale their art and network. At CEC, there is a spectacular meeting of the high and mighty in the industry with their respective art and entertainment audiences, setting the tone for a two-way discuss, which in turn provides a most sustainable and viable environment for practitioners all over the country. This year’s edition marks CEC’s fifth anniversary and it will come with a bang.
Did the entertainment industry feel the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic? Yes. COVID-19 undoubtedly crippled many sectors globally, but without mincing words, the entertainment industry was unarguably worst hit.
On the heels of successes recorded at the last four CEC editions, this year’s conference promises to be even bigger and better with personalities drawn from both the national and international entertainment scene. Top act and lyrical music sensation, Kaptain, veteran media personality, Olisa Adibua, Edi Lawani, Joey Akan, Ryan Verneile from the USA, Loraine Lionheart from Botswana and DJ Lisa Li from France are all on this year’s card. Also, popular social media influencer, Stephanie Isuma (Calabar Chic), brand strategist, Tochukwu Macfroy, Boomplay’s General Manager Dele Kadiri and others, will be in attending live.
As we discover, define and rebrand, two sessions will be held to discuss “The Impact of Covid-19 on the Entertainment Industry” and “How Partnerships have changed the dimension of things in the entertainment industry”, even fostering creativity.
Additionally, this CEC will also celebrate legends who have left indelible marks in the industry by conferring post-humous awards and iconic awards on those selected.
This year, the legendary fuji & highlife musician, Etubom Rex Williams and BLO Guitarist BB Wright, will receive awards for their contributions to the entertainment industry.
The event nicks in on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Cultural Centre, Calabar by 10 am. Registration is completely free but necessary and can be done on the radio station’s official website, www.hit959.com
