Residents of 8 Miles, Calabar, Cross River State, have cried out at the almost impassable nature of the Integro Road, behind First Bank Plc, 8 Miles branch, a situation that has destroyed several vehicles and made life extremely difficult for most of them.
On conditions of anonymity, some residents of the area spoken to, maintained that “this is a road contract awarded by the CR Basin Development Authority to a construction company that operates like a ghost. The company did not put up any sign post, as it is normally the case, to name her as contractor, no supervisors of the road or even job consultants, but eight weeks after they commenced this construction, they have abandoned it and left behind a heavy trail of woes and hardship”, a resident in the area told www.calitown.com.
Because of the bad state of the Integro Road which provides access to the Ikot Nkebre and Ikot Ekpo areas of 8 Miles, www.calitown.com was further informed that “criminal activities on this road have been boosted as some drivers who are stuck on the road have been serially robbed while seeking help. If your vehicle is stuck overnight, forget your car battery and other valuables, they will be gone before you get help in the morning”, as another resident put it.
Attempts to speak with relevant personnel in the CR Basin Development Authority office proved abortive at press time while another resident of the area believes, “it is deliberate that nobody in the office wants to talk and claim responsibility for this act of wickedness. If they knew they were not going to make this road passable, they should not have destroyed it because not many of us living in this area can continue to afford this level of suffering.”
On close examination, we discovered that a mixture of laterite and chipping mixed in negligible tar and poured on the road is what is on the road.
