The Police in Calabar, Cross River State, at about 2 p.m, on Tuesday, raided an abandoned property situated on First Avenue, State Housing Estate and arrested 11 suspects who are believed to have been behind a spate of robberies that have endlessly rocked high brow State Housing Estate, www.calitown.com can reveal.
The property, overgrown with weeds, which use to house former Culture and Tourism Minister, Edem Duke’s fast food and eatery, Duke’s, the Police say, became a hideout for suspected thieves who unleashed mayhem on unsuspecting members of the public from there. “Funny enough, while the place looked inhabitable, these boys made the place their home and operated from there until we were tipped off and had to carry out this raid that yielded 11 of them”, a Police source at the State Housing Police Station told www.calitown.com.
Residents around the area who pleaded anonymity say they were shocked when Police stormed the place and arrested the boys. ” It is a commendable action on the part of the Police and if you take into consideration the fact that we did not even know that these boys had taken up residence and were terrorizing us from there. God knows we are a bit relieved”, one resident said.
The suspects in the meantime remain in Police custody and will soon be arraigned in court.
