Men of the Nigeria Police in the Cross River state Police Command have shot and killed six kidnappers behind the abduction of a student of the privately owned Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo LGA of the state.
Evidence available show that the police who had been on the trail of the suspected kidnappers, swooped in on them in their hideout in Akpabuyo LGA, after deploying state of the arts
technology, to locate the hideout.
It was further gathered that the suspects immediately engaged the police in a gun duel, when they sighted them. In the ensuing battle, five of the suspects were shot and killed on the spot while the sixth suspect died from gunshot wounds, later on.
It was also discovered in the course of police investigation that one of the principal kidnap suspects, deceptively joined in the search for the abducted student, unknown to all that he masterminded the heino us crime that demanded N20 million naira as ransom .
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed that the six suspects were killed during a shoot out with the police. She reiterated an earlier warning that “… any criminal in the state should leave Cross River, we have moved to the next stage, we are going after the criminals very hard this time, no more warning, enough is enough. We want to assure law abiding citizens to go about their lawful activities, we urge them to always share information with us , because security is everybody’s business ,” she said.
Founder and Chancellor of Arthur Jarvis University, Arthur Jarvis Archibong, in reaction to the incident, maintained that,“we want to assure every parent and ward that the safety of our students is key, as we take the wellbeing and welfare of every student seriously and apart from the measures we have taken to forestall further occurrence of such security breach, we guarantee that nothing of such will ever happen again, ” he assured.
