The Cross River State Police Command has insisted that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, incharge of ‘B’ Division, Calabar, allegedly caught on camera aiding supposed agents of the All Progressives Congress, APC, doctor election materials in Saturday’s local council polls, “… was acting on credible intelligence regarding electoral materials allegedly diverted from the designated polling center at the Women Development Centre, Calabar, to a hotel.”

Irene Ugbo, Police Public Relations Officer, CRS Police Command, in a press statement released to the public, stated that, the DPO was “…within her area of responsibility during the Local Government Elections on 2nd November 2024.”
The release further said the DPO, “…in response, led officers to recover and secure these materials, ensuring their safe transport to the appropriate voting location.”
But the Commissioner of Police, ”in response to the concerns raised, … has ordered a thorough investigation to address the allegations. The Command urges the public to remain calm as findings will be communicated transparently upon conclusion.”
“Furthermore, the Command urges anyone with clear evidence on the allegation to come in aid of our investigation please.”
Recall that the viral video, filmed and released online as the elections were supposedly on-going, show the female DPO, driving out of a hotel, identified to www.calitown.com as Ashley Hotel, Ikot Effa Street, Off Parliamentary Village Road, Calabar.
Driving behind her were two mini buses, filled with election materials and persons suspected to be ad-hoc election officials. “Aggrieved residents of the area are believed to have suspected the DPO and her entourage driving into the hotel as a bad sign and subsequently raised alarm and filmed her. She even tried to prevent the person who was filming her from doing so. If you watch the end of the video, you will notice a minor scuffle before she zoomed off”, and observer who pleads anonymity told us.
