Egbe Awo Egbe, the State Organising Secretary (Central) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has sharply reacted to the negative activity of some unscrupulous persons in Abi LGA, who attempted to prevent Sandy Onor, the senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District and governorship aspirant of the PDP from consulting with stakeholders of the PDP in Abi LGA, during Onor’s recent visit to the LGA.
Not only is he angered by this development, he is seriously worried that those who participated in this negative act claimed they were acting on the instructions of the council chairman, Faratoh Robinson, who he believes should be knowledgeable enough to understand that “our people in Abi are in dire need of critical infrastructure and not any out of place card carrying exercise that can undermine the peace and security of the LGA”.
Egbe who spoke with www.calitown.com in Calabar, shortly after the incident, further maintained that, “the kind of politics that encourages this kind of anomaly must be forcefully condemned and shut out. Yes, the man defected to the APC and so what? I am so ashamed that where we should be proferring solutions to the problems confronting our LGA and directing youthful energy to positive things, my council chairman is playing primitive politics and engaging young people to go stand on a road he can’t construct, carrying placards inscribed with messages most of them can’t even read.”
“If the idea is to demonstrate to his thin political gods that he is working, I think he only succeeded in showing us all the limits of his reasoning. So what he intends to be remembered for when he leaves office is this notoriety in hiring young people to break the law? I speak as a concerned Abi LGA indigene, where this unfortunate incident took place, and I am ashamed at what happened; we must collectively ensure, without party affiliations, that people with this kind of reasoning do not go within an earshot of political office.”
To Abi youths as well as youths in other parts of the state, he kept the message clear: “Politics is a game and you cannot take any real or imagined positives away if all you do is become the one politicians remember when there are dirty jobs to be executed. Please demand through your comportment and positive disposition that you are forward looking and deserve better and no one will give you less. Those the Abi chairman recruited for that dirty job must turn a new leaf; they must know that as a community, we cannot condone this kind of acts so that the fragile peace and security of our LGA is not thrown away.”
