Immediate past Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Cross River State Chapter, John Achort Okon has revealed that he and key elements of the party in the state and the national level were shocked when the PDP lost power at the centre to the All Progressives Congress, APC in the last general elections.
Okon who spoke on local radio station, HIT 95.9 FM, early this morning, admitted that his party made costly mistakes that the APC capitalised on during the last polls. While he did not point out the mistakes, it was clear from his statements that while key functionaries in the PDP were locked in all sorts of political supremacy battles, the party failed to address the yearnings and aspirations of the electorate.
While his response to a question bothering on his recent invitation by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the N500 million political campaign funds drawn in his name, was fuzzy, the former chairman insists that the current political atmosphere under an APC government at the centre has been a vindictive one, the reason why his party has not been vocal in opposition.
He again re-iterated a position he has constantly maintained that the APC made unrealistic political promises that she has not been able to fulfill.
