If pronouncements are anything to go by, then Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, may be on his way to the Senate for a fourth term, calitown.com, can reveal.
On the heels of the South-South Zonal enlarged meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, held in Calabar recently, Mike Oghiadome, Chief of Staff to President Jonathan as well as Bamanga Tukur, party chairman, made remarks that pointed at their preference of Ndoma-Egba, over and above any other candidate, because like Oghiadome said, “we need people like him at the Senate to continue”.
Ndoma-Egba who represents Cross River Central Senatorial District, has been re-elected to the Senate twice. Within this period, he has, working with President Jonathan’s allies, warmed his way into the hearts of the ‘Jonathanians’, a term that has come to represent and describe, astute followers of the Jonathan presidency.
However, the endorsements from Abuja may not represent the political reality on the ground, sources have informed calitown.com. One source told calitown.com that, “Oghiadome, Tukur and every one of them can endorse Ndoma-Egba, but I think that he has had his days, if he continues, we will never know if another person will ever be suited for the job. If he has done well, let what he has done be measured by what another person can do too”. The source went on to say that, “if he never had the opportunity in the first instance, those who want him to remain, will not be insisting on him sitting tight at the Senate. Let another person go there so that the experience will go around”, he concluded.
Meanwhile, the rumour mill is going full circle with information that Gov. Liyel Imoke may also have his sights set on Ndoma-Egba’s job, after he completes his term in office as governor. Imoke was in the Senate briefly, before Abacha trauncated his term there.
Ndoma-Egba has in the midst of all, made no committal statements, but the days ahead promise to unravel political secrets.
