Mercurial Super Eagles forward, Victor Moses, yesterday led an Eagles attacking line up that includes AFCON goal king, Emmanuel Emenike, Brown Ideye, returnee Eagle, Obinna Nsofor, Mandela Challenge tormentor, Uche Nwafor, speedstar, Ahmed Musa, Newcastle’s Shola Ameobi, among others, in a training session at the U. J. Esuene Stadium, preparatory to the cracker against the ‘mouthy’ Flames of Malawi on Saturday.
It was however a difficult time for security men at the stadium as a large crowd of football fans thronged the stadium to catch a glimpse of the Super Eagles team who trained on the very wet stadium turf. The session was light with team coach, Stephen Keshi and his backroom staff working on shooting and accurate passing skills.
In the evening, yesterday, when the Flames of Malawi had their first feel of the stadium turf, calitown.com had a herculean task going through security to watch the away team train. But from the V.I.P stand, the team could be seen basically warming up and having light training.
Meanwhile, calitown.com can authoritatively reveal that security in Calabar has been beefed up ahead of the make or mar encounter. At several strategic places in the city, well decked securitymen can be seen sternly positioned. At Dannic Hotels, Ekorinim, Calabar, the team camp of the Malawians, several uniformed and plain cloth security operatives were on hand when calitown.com visited the Malawian camp. The Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel, Super Eagles camp, is also well guarded and movement restrictions, in and out of the hotel, are in place to ward off teeming fans.
The match in Calabar on Saturday, is the final leg to see who qualifies for the final group stage of the World Cup to be hosted by Brazil. While the Eagles need a draw to go through, their opponents need an outright win. The match kicks off at 4.pm, Nigerian time.
