For inhabitants of Four Corners, Ikom, CR Central, words are yet to describe the mood in the commercial centre, following the discovery of 23-year-old Martha Ojogu’s body, believed to have been gruesomely murdered in very murky circumstances, www.calitown.com can reveal. Reported to have been missing for close to one week, a search party is said to have discovered Martha’s body, wrapped in a cellophine paper and dumped in the bush, close to the very popular Otere stream, on the Ikom-Obudu road.
On the line from Ikom, Vincent Mfeme Bassey, a relative of the deceased, told www.calitown.com that, Martha who ran a thrift saving scheme, was last seen alive on Friday last week when she went to one of the banks in Ikom to make a deposit after the day’s rounds. It was only late on Saturday, the next day, that friends and relatives discovered that Martha was missing. Martha’s family is said to have informed security agencies in the area as well as the state broadcasting corporation which immediately drew the public’s attention to the missing Martha.
It was further learnt that several search parties comprising security agencies and youths in the area combed Ikom and surrounding communities for several days but could not find the young lady. Her badly decomposed corpse was only discovered days later with her hands and legs bound as well as a few of her vital organs believed to have been taken.
In her native Yala, Ikom, family members and friends are said to be lamenting and cursing her murderers and “everybody is crying”, as Bassey put it. Her remains have since been buried.
