Family sources have informed www.calitown.com that consumate chartered accountant and former Auditor-General for Local Government, Cross River State, Okoi Okpebri, who died recently in Calabar, will be buried in his native Ntan, Ekori, Yakurr LGA, this Saturday, May 24, 2014.
The burial programme released by the family indicates that a service of songs will be held in his honour at the Unical Chapel of Redemption today,Thursday, May 22, 2014. His remains will depart Moore Road mortuary the next day for a commendation service at the same Unical Chapel of Redemption at 10 am. Enroute Ekori, there will be a brief lying-in-state at the Office of the Auditor-General for Local Government, Calabar. An all night vigil will hold in Ekori, same day while burial is on Saturday, May 24, after a christian service.
A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, Okpebri was at one time the Financial Controller of the CR Agricultural Development Project, among other positions of responsibility that he has occupied within and outside the state. He is survived by his wife, Iquo Okpebri, four children, brothers, sisters and cousins.
Meanwhile, Chairman, Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission, CROSIEC, Sir Patrick Otu, has described as saddening, the passing away of Okpebri. On the line from his office in Calabar, Otu told www.calitown.com that ” Okpebri’s sterling qualities, his intellect, Godly disposition, humility and open mindedness will be thoroughly missed”. He prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and further that God should grant the family he left behind, the fortitude to bear “this irreplacable loss”.
