Patrick Ugbe, Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of HIT 95.9 FM, Calabar’s first private radio station, kidnapped days ago in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, has been released by his kidnappers and www.calitown.com can confirm that he has re-united with his family and close friends, early Saturday morning.
His kidnap, which coincided with the visit of Yemi Osinbajo, Acting-President of Nigeria, drew both public sympathy and outrage, especially in media circles within and outside the state. We can also report that his sports utility vehicle with registration number, KJA 614 AQ, was yesterday morning discovered at 8 Miles, Calabar, where his abductors abandoned the vehicle. The vehicle bore aggressive matchet cuts, two to the passenger’s side and one to the windscreen, damaging the windscreen.
The side glass at the back was completely damaged while a white wrenched singlet, thought to have been used to either blindfold or tie his hands, was left on the driver’s seat. No other part of the vehicle was tampered with. Family members say he remains under close watch while no mention was made about any ransom payment.
Late yesterday when www.calitown.com spoke with the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, the CP informed that his men were on top of the situation and hope to resolve the matter sooner than expected. He volunteered no further information.
