Joyful scenes and a show of immense gratitude were visible in Obudu, Cross River State as House of Representatives member, Peter Akpanke, who represents Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency, offered free medicare for scores of his constituents and beyond.
At the Sacred Heart Hospital, Obudu, venue of the exercise, medical checks, eye consultations and sight correction, specialized medical surgeries, drugs administration etc, were offered free to the mammoth crowd that converged at the venue.
Akpanke who spoke exclusively with www.calitown.com revealed that, “long before I was elected into the House of Representatives, I had embraced and sponsored free medicare for my people because of the grave difficulties they encounter, trying to access medicare. In most instances, my people have died because they was completely no access to medicare in expansive areas of my constituency.”
“I made a campaign promise to my people that if they send me to the House of Reps, I will commit myself to making free medicare reach them. What you are therefore seeing here is the fulfillment of a campaign promise that will not end here, God willing. We will return and further expand this exercise so that it will reach more people than we have so far reached.”
Accompanied by his wife, the CRS chapter chairman of the PDP, Venatius Ikem, party stalwarts, friends and well wishers, Akpanke further assured the people that, “my work in Abuja cannot be different from what you sent me there to do; to work for your interest.” He solicited for prayers from the people, adding that with God on his side and the people’s, there is nothing imaginable that cannot be achieved.
While medical personnel had a hectic time attending to the mammoth crowd, several people who at press time have so far accessed medicare, praised the lawmaker’s commitment to delivering on his campaign promise(s).
