“We are not politicians, we cannot be brought into the politics of this country. Professional police officers are supposed to do what they are supposed to do to protect lives and property and that is why we remain where we are. We charge the Commissioner of Police to be a professional officer, providing safety and security for the good people and development of Rivers State.”
With these words, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar dashed the hopes of basically pro-Amaechi supporters and other Nigerians who had felt the thorn in the flesh Rivers police boss, Mbu James Mbu was as sure as gone, after the Senate and House of Reps, called for his re-deployment from Rivers State.
Mbu is alledged to be at the centre of the seemingly hydra-headed political crises in Rivers State, a crisis which degenerated into legislators trading blows on the floor of the House of Assembly.
While many watchers and commentors have backed the call for his re-deployment, it is now clear that the Boki, Cross River State cop enjoys the confidence of his superiors, no less the IGP. Abubakar, calitown.com was hinted “cannot act outside the desire of the Aso Rock people, who put him there”. It is a hint calitown.com hopes to confirm in the days ahead.
