One time Commissioner of Information in Cross River State, Akin Ricketts, who recently contested the senatorial primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial primaries for CR Central Senatorial District, annulled by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has refuted published claims in the media that he contested yesterday’s (December 17, 2022) rerun elections ordered by the court.
Ricketts is particularly miffed that it was erroneously reported that he contested the primaries and scored a single vote, when he had actually issued a widely circulated release that he had withdrawn from the contest.
“I widely consulted with my family, political associates, delegates and teeming supporters in my country home in Ugep last Friday and informed them that I was no more pursuing my senatorial ambition. Consequently, I thanked my supporters and Cross Riverians for their unflinching support. I also pledged my loyalty to our great party the All progressives Congress APC and the leader, the governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade.”
“I further enjoined all my supporters and delegates to ensure a peaceful atmosphere at the venue and vote the candidature of Rt Hon. Eteng Jones Williams so as to ensure victory for APC in the forthcoming elections”, Ricketts told www.calitown.com
“I think it is irresponsible journalism for any journalist or group of journalists to propagate what is not true and so embarrass me and my supporters. I must clearly state that the facts were misrepresented and wish to use this medium to communicate the true situation so that this misinformation will be disregarded. I did not contest the rerun primaries, for the records please”, he insisted.
