Archibong Etim Bassey, new chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Cross River State, say she is excited to have been elected as the first female chairperson of the NUJ in the state.
Bassey who spoke exclusively with www.calitown.com, further stated that her “emergence is a feat that didn’t come easy, but was made possible by my professional colleagues who have demonstrated believe in my ability to lead them.”
“I am the first female head of our association in the whole of South-South Nigeria and only the third in Nigeria, unarguably it is a feat that also comes with a weight of responsibility; to deliver on promises and discharge my functions well. I have a challenge on my hands, but with my colleagues behind me, we will meet targets and achieve goals.”
Bassey began her work as a journalist with the now rested Sunset Newspaper in 2008. The following year, she joined the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, where she is currently an Assistant Manager, News and Current Affairs. She takes over the reins from Gill Nsa, recently appointed Chief Press Secretary to the Cross River State governor.
