In what can best be described not just as a dastardly robbery operation but also as a very sad story for one widow, people suspected to be armed robbers are said to have, in a pre-dawn operation at No. 47 Atamunu Street, Calabar South, shot and killed, at point blank range, 22-year old Godwin Ibiang, of the said address.
Sources who volunteered information to calitown.com, on condition of anonymity, say the robbers, believed to be six in number, struck at the address at some minutes after 3 a.m, yesterday, first robbing the deceased’s neighbour of cash before breaking into the apartment where the deceased and his mother were. The suspects then demanded money from the deceased and his mother, who informed the suspects that they had no money. It was further revealed that irked by the no money situation, one of the suspects raised an AK 47 assault rifle to Ibiang’s head, defying the pleas of the deceased’s mother to spare his life, shot him at point blank range, killing him on the spot. The suspects are thought to have taken to their heels when it became obvious that the wailings of the young man’s mother was soon to attract residents of the area.
Cyril Omini, a cousin of the deceased informed calitown.com exclusively that “Ibiang who had just been made the choir master at his local Atamunu parish of the Apostolic Church, only came home to help his mother with the chores since his brother too was in church, not knowing that had he stayed back in church he probably would have been alive now”.
On close examination at the morgue, calitown.com saw that the point blank shot, tore open his left eye, revealing a gaping hole that morticians at the time of this report were still battling to stitch up. The Police it is reported has swung into action as the Criminal Investigation Department, C.I.D, has despatched her officers to the field.
