… Jarigbe, Akpanke, Family & Others Take Custody

As the body of Nigeria’s former Senate President, Joseph Wayas finally arrived Nigeria, two years and seven months after he passed away in a London hospital on November 30, 2021, Cross River State governor, Bassey Edet Otu, has received high praise for facilitating the repatriation of the corpse back to Nigeria.
Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, senator representing CR North in the Senate, joined by Peter Akpanke, House of Reps member, Obudu/Bekwarra/ Obanliku Federal Constituency, family members, kinsmen and other stakeholders, while receiving the corpse in Abuja today, highly commended Otu for demonstrating visible commitment that brought Wayas’ corpse back to Nigeria.
At the National Hospital, Abuja morgue, where the corpse was deposited, Jarigbe further maintained that, “we are going to prepare for the funeral. Right now, we are going to report back to our state governor and the governor is going to take it up from here because the late statesman is the responsibility of government and he will be accorded a state funeral.”
Retired judge, Maurice Odey Eneji, who headed the Joe Wayas Burial Fact Finding Committee, informed www.calitown.com that, “it was not easy bringing the corpse back to Nigeria, but it is finally ok. We thank God for making this possible, now we have to go back to our state governor and give him feedback because he was an integral part of this effort to bring Wayas back to Nigeria for burial.”
Obanliku, Cross River State-born Joseph Wayas was Nigeria’s Senate President from 1979 to 1983, during the Shehu Shagari administration.
