Gunmen, in the wee hours of Thursday, broke into the private residence of embattled University of Calabar Law Dean, Cyril Ndifon, and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
Immediate family sources say the break in, which occured between midnight and 1:00am, Thursday morning, brought the family face to face with gun welding men, believed to be in their numbers, who initially ordered that they be allowed entry into the house or they will break in.
“About ten heavily armed men entered the house, bodies reeking of alcohol and cigarette, pulled down the main entrance door and the door leading to the bedroom and whisked away Prof Ndifon. We attempted to protest, but one of them threatened to shoot, aiming his muzzle at us”, a family source present in the house said.
“Tell me why you had to break our doors to pick my husband in the middle of the night in such an inhumane manner,” Ndifon’s wife is said to have cried out. Her pleas are reported to have fallen on deaf ears as the university don was dragged into a waiting van and whisked away.
We were yet to ascertain at press time, if those who took Ndifon away are security agents, but recall that the dean recently raised alarm over threats to his life, even insinuating that security personnel he did not name, tried to arrest him in church without a warrant.
