Yesterday’s 10 goals to nil pounding of the Cross River State U-18 team at the U. J. Esuene stadium by Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets may however be too early to brand the Eaglets as world beaters, Garba Manu, coach of the side has revealed.
The Eaglets, barely one week into their closed camping in Calabar, put the state U-18 team, preparing for the National Youth Sports Festival, to the sword with second half substitute and new striking sensation, Theophilus Solomon, grabbing a hat trick.
Garba maintained that the team is still building but agreed that they were “many positives from the match”. He added that though his team is not on the same level with the opposition, it has a synergy, demonstrated by the ability of the old players and the recently found, to blend and deliver fast paced positive football which he hopes pays off when the Eaglets enter into tournaments proper.
Midfielder, Ifeanyi Matthew’s stunning 20-yard strike opened the floodgate as goals by Kelechi Iheanacho, Chinedu Eze, Jacob Njoku and Musa Muhammed, captain, completed the rout at the stadium’s training pitch.
