Attah Ochinke, former Attorney-General of Cross River State has disclosed rather philosophically that “every sitting governor will soon become former, either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.”
Ochinke made this disclosure in his reaction to comments made and circulating in the media that the administration of Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, plans to audit the tenures of Donald Duke and Liyel Imoke, former governors of the state, under circumstances that appear more politically more self-serving than an audit done for public good.
Hear him, “I read the comments of the Hon Attorney General. In fairness to him I do not think he was talking about privatization. It appears he is referring to stocks; some equity holding of the state in some public quoted companies. I could be wrong.” He went on to categorically state that he does not support “…the AG in seeking to kick start a media trial which is usually conducted with incomplete facts and ends in several verdicts without right of appeal, more so as we are talking about two former governors that set high standards for public service in this country.” He concluded by emphatically stating that, “whatever transaction the learned AG meant, I will only say that every sitting governor will soon become former, either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.”
