While political events unfold in Cross River State, it has just been revealed to www.calitown.com that the PDP primary election in Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency will not go on again as earlier planned because just a few hours ago, Emil Inyang, seeking to unseat the incumbent, Daniel Asuquo (Dansuki), stepped down for Asuquo in a deal believed to have been brokered before state governor, Liyel Imoke.
“It comes as no surprise to our camp because Dansuki would have thoroughly beaten Emil in the field and all this talk of being a government candidate would have also gone down the drain”, a source in Asuquo’s camp submitted. Emil’s action “better expresses his desire to be selfless and let our democracy work, those who think otherwise may be acting mischievously”, a strong supporter of his told www.calitown.com.
In another development, residents of Calabar, the CRS capital woke up to a fresh swarm of “Gershom Bassey for Governor” posters at strategic locations within the city. Bassey who incidentally is contesting the Southern Senatorial district seat, has been at the centre of several political guesses and imputations. It was initially thought that the establishment has pencilled him for position of governor, until his senatorial ambition came to the fore. His ambition may however meet a brick wall in Bassey Otu who presently occupies the position and there is talk in the background that should that be the case, he may be back ‘demanding’ to run for governor. It may be an unlikely scenario though only time will tell.
