It is emerging that the attempt by Cross River State governor’s Chief of Staff, Alex Egbona, to occupy the Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency seat may hit the dust if political feelers on the ground are anything to go by, www.calitown.com can reveal.
First, sources on the ground are claiming that Agbo, Egbona’s tribe in Abi, “cannot exclusively produce a House of Assembly member and a member of the House of Representatives, at the same time”. This submission is clearly hinged on the fact that, John Gaul Lebo, who represents Abi in the Cross River State House of Assembly is of Agbo extraction and is looking stronger by the day to stage a return to the CRS House of Assembly in 2015, the same year Egbona hopes to go to the House of Reps. Egbona’s problems seem further compounded by a sleazy gang up within his local government area, targeted at undoing him by any means necessary.
However, those on Egbona’s side are insisting that “he is still the man to beat” and further that “those who are labouring to pull the rug under his feet will soon discover that it is not just enough to whip baseless sentiments, we understand what they are doing. They have all this while worked to discredit Egbona but these same persons have failed over and over before and they will fail again”, one source told www.calitown.com. There are even claims making the rounds that Egbona has been stripped of most of his functions and that the Deputy Chief of Staff has been saddled with those functions. It is an allegation we are yet to confirm.
As it stands, the battle for the Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency seat will be intriguing and long drawn.
