A former governor of Cross River State, Clement Ebri, has donated 407 worth of academic and research text books to the University of Calabar.
Ebru who was represented by Joe Odey, said his gesture was informed by the fact that the University needs books to offer support to their academic programmes.
According to him, for a university to function optimally, she needs to be equipped with academic books and other essentials for research purposes as well as in the area of advancing information in the course of learning.
Receiving the books on behalf of the university, the Vice Chancellor, Florence Banku Obi thanked and commended the former governor for his benevolence to the growth of the university.
She said the donation was timely and helpful, adding that the faculties and the university will benefit immensely from his show of love and patriotism. While calling on other well meaning Nigerians and alumni to show concern towards the development of Nigeria universities and University of Calabar in particular, Obi promised that the books will be judiciously used and dispatched to the concerned faculties.
The books were donated to the Faculty of Educational and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Management Sciences, Departments of Mathematics and Economics respectively.
