Danger: Atimbo/Akpabuyo Road Going!

Unless something is done urgently by authorities concerned, the Atimbo/Akpabuyo road in Calabar Municipality will in no time become impassable because of the threat caused by a deep gully that is gradually eating off a large portion of the road.

At the said portion, a few metres from the Nigeria Navy barracks in Atimbo, the gully has become life threatening especially to motorists ferrying passengers to Akpabuyo LGA and residents of the area. Again, as most heavy duty trucks commuting to and from the UNICEM plant, use the road, most people worry that further pressure from these trucks may trigger a landslide with unimaginable casualty figures.

When calitown.com visited the place, remedial attempts were in place to warn commuters of the danger the section of the road poses. Michael Udo-Akpan who lives around the area told calitown.com that, “I do not know if government is waiting for this road to collapse completely before something is done.” He further pointed calitown.com to several buildings close to the erosion site, that have been swept away or are on the verge of being swept away, pleading that before more damage is done, government should step in and tackle the problem.

The Atimbo/Akpabuyo road connects Calabar to several villages in Akpabuyo LGA , the UNICEM plant and is also a gateway to Cameroun.
