The 18 chapter chairmen of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State will each receive a Ford Ranger as a gift from the CRS government in what a source told www.calitown.com is “the party’s way of rewarding the loyalty of the chapter chairmen and addressing an angle that some politicians would have exploited” in the run in to the 2015 gubernatorial polls.
Reliable sources say the presentation will be done by Gov. Imoke’s Chief of Staff, Alex Egbona, in a ceremony that will take place at the Governor’s Office, Calabar, from 10am, July 3rd, 2014. It is a ceremony that observers say has all the trappings of a subtle move by the Imoke administration to demonstrate that the administration is interested in the welfare of local chapter members, who will play decisive political roles as the next governor of the state works at emerging.
One observer, on the line to www.calitown.com, frowns at what “the administration believes is a political master stroke. It is giving the chapter chairmen cars when payment of salaries to hardworking Cross Riverians has not been prioritized. Civil servants at the local council level are being owed two months salaries and these people think it is normal. We can all see that the welfare of our people has taken a back seat while the fanfare of clueless politicians is what we are assaulting our senses with.”
However, government sources say the car gift to the chapter chairmen has been in the pipeline for long and that “those who are carpeting this lofty idea either want to force attention to themselves and attempt to score cheap points or are part of the bandwagon of Imoke haters, trying to see only evil, wherever they turn their gazes”.
