The Cross River State Government says it is committed and working to make the state owned University of Cross River State, UNICROSS, Calabar, emerge as one of the leading tertiary institutions in Nigeria and beyond.
State governor, Bassey Otu made this disclosure when the Vice-Chancellor of UNICROSS, Austin Angba, led the university’s management team on a visit to the governor.
Otu told the UNICROSS team in very certain terms that: “the challenges you face, I already know. We will review the monthly subvention in the light of the current challenges and will continue to work together to resolve other issues. My administration will continue to work to ensure that UNICROSS becomes one of the leading tertiary institutions in this country and beyond. This is because for any society to progress, its academic foundation must be solidly entrenched. That is why I facilitated the building of a befitting administrative block to provide the needed comfort for staff in the institution.”
Angba in his response, congratulated the governor on his election and commended him for facilitating, while serving as a senator, the building of the administrative block in UNICROSS.
He further informed the governor that UNICROSS has recently been ranked as the seventh best university in Nigeria and 37th in sub-Saharan Africa. He also emphasized that the university’s academic calendar had been stabilised.
Angba concluded by telling the governor that: “We know that as governor, you will do more for the institution.”
