Asuquo Ekpenyong, senator representing CR South Senatorial District, has facilitated the award of grants and the distribution of essential business items to more than 700 constituents.
At a workshop held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Channel View Hotel, Calabar, Asuquo said the gesture was undertaken to ameliorate some of the economic hardships experienced by his constituents in the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State,
Items distributed include laptops, sewing machines, deep freezers, fridges, generators, grinding machines, and tricycles (Keke Napep) to 200 constituents. In collaboration with SMEDAN and the Trust Fund Microfinance Bank, more than 500 women and young people received grants ranging from N100,000 to N200,000 for micro and small scale businesses, spread across the seven local government areas that make up the Cross River Southern Senatorial District.
Ekpenyong’s initiative is meant to not only address immediate financial constraints. but to also foster long-term economic stability and self-sufficiency within communities.
In his remarks at the event, Ekpenyong re-emphasised his commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and mitigating against economic challenges. He also underscored his dedication to serve the people of his district by leveraging on partnerships with government agencies and mobilizing resources through effective leadership in proactively addressing the needs of his constituents during times of hardship.
As the beneficiaries received these vital resources, the senator tasked them to make meaningful contributions to their local economies, ultimately fostering economic growth and employment across the region.
