It is no longer news that the enlarged caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Sunday into the wee hours of Monday, finally zoned the office of governor, Cross River State, come 2015to the Northern Senatorial District of the state.
What is however news is that the decision of the caucus has thrown several political camps in the zone into a frenzy as political trading has commenced in earnest.
Sources within the PDP informed calitown.com that “more than ever before those who were cautious about getting into the race, believeing that the Southern Senatorial District was angling for the position, are now digging deep and consulting with a view to garner enough support that will guarantee victory at the polls”.
Another source went on to say that “if those with eyes on the governorship position think it will be a simple walk in the park, then their failure has started. Everybody must work at convincing us that beyond being governor, the ship of state can be steadied”.
Calitown.com investigations further show that while the subtle dragging of the position between the Northern and Southern Senatorial Districts, may have been put to rest, a greater tussle is brewing as the North has a large pool of aspirants ready for a bite at the governorship cherry. The list reads like this; Abuja based technocrat, Goddy Agba, Ben Ayade, serving senator, J. Agom, state SURE-P co-ordinator, F. Ugbo, former secretary to state government, John Odey, one time federal minister, Julius Okputu, frontline politician, Rose Oko, consumate party chieftain and Legor Idagbor, serving Works commissioner.
The days ahead promise to be exciting.
