CR North Jostles For Ministerial Slot

As expected, the intense jostle for the ministerial slots that have opened up as a result of President Jonathan’s sacking of nine ministers; Ms Amal Pepple, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufai, Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman, Hajiya Zainab Kuchim, Alhaji Bukar Tijjani, Olugbenga Ashiru, Hadiza Mailafia, Erelu Obada, Ita Ewa, is in motion. sources in Abuja say a power bloc from the Cross River Northern Senatorial District, is in the nation’s capital to try out at a process that may see her taking one slot.

But that pursuit may yeild minimal results because as one source says, “with a Minister and a Senate Leader, already from Cross River, the state can hardly convince any Nigerian that she needs another minister”. That has however not deterred the power bloc from pushing for a minister from the Northern Senatorial District of the state after the last one from there left office several months ago. The idea, sources say is to try to “go for everything available and finally settle for the governorship”, it is a strategy that some political analysts have faulted.

“If they go for everything on offer without looking at the cost on their energies, it is possible that they may lose everything”, one source said. He added further that, “now that is is clear that every honest person in CR supports the idea of a governor from CR’s North, I think the best thing for those people to do is to concentrate on the articulation of their political strategy so we can all be convinced as Cross Riverians that power should indeed shift that way and not want to use glass teeth and bite at formidable rocks”, the source concluded.

It is a position another source from the North, takes down. Hear him, “if it works out and we are able to have another minister from this state, it will be to the benefit of the state. Those who think we must be shut out because the governorship carrot is dangled at us need to understand that one is never enough and if God has destined that CR will get another minister and he or she will come from the North, there is nothing anybody can do about that”.
