Plans have been completed for constituents in Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku Federal Constituency, Cross River State, to benefit from a Medical Support Scheme put in place by the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Peter Akpanke.
Akpanke who made this disclosure to his constituents during celebrations to mark his birthday, revealed further that the scheme will particularly tackle medical support for women, the physically challenged, the aged and identifiable categories of medically challenged persons.
“In most of our communities here, I know how difficult it is for you people to access medical care. For some of you, getting to the nearest health facility, can take a whole day and even when you get there, severally, most of you face the reality of not being able to pay for drugs and services. This experience is what I intend to tackle with this medical scheme, having it in mind that you my constituents certainly deserve to live a better life”, Akpanke said.
He expressed gratitude for the kind wishes and continuous support from his constituents and emphasized that he will strive to better the welfare of his people with people-centred programmes and packages.
Akpanke who also used the occasion to distribute food items, medical supplies and cash donations to constituents in the three LGAs that make up the federal constituency, promised to make this occasion an annual event. “From next year by God’s grace, this event will be bigger because all of us from the three LGAs of this federal constituency, will gather in one place to celebrate on a much larger scale”, he concluded.
Men, women and children, were seen, at the venue in each of the three LGAs, dancing and joyously chanting the name of the Member of Parliament to the high heavens as they received their gifts.
