Former Permanent Secretary in the Cross River State Civil Service and serving board member of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, Mathew Achigbe has denounced his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and joined the All Progressive Congress, APC.

In an elaborate reception put together in his honour to formerly welcome him to the party in his council ward, Ofombumgha/Yala ward in Obubra Local Government Area of the state, the former Perm Sec told the mammoth crowd at the event that his decision to leave the PDP, a party he has helped make what it is in the state and local government over the years for APC, was to pursue the overall interest and development of the people of Obubra adding that any true son and daughter of Obubra who desires good for the people has no reason being in the PDP.

He explained that since 2011 when his Yala Nkum community protested against his former party by voting for the then ACN in the Obubra I State Constituency elections which saw the emergence of Alex Irek as member of the Cross River State House of Assembly, the undue marginalization the PDP has meted on the area inspite of their steadfastness to the party, he has been left in the dark in relation to the affairs of the party and his membership of the leadership of the party at all levels stripped him.According to him, over time their conscience has been mortgaged but APC has presented a source of hope because it has won the hearts of the people.

Also speaking, the immediate past Minority Leader of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Alex Irek commended the courage of all those who have joined the APC even when the PDP was the ruling party in the state adding that they have nothing to lose. He also hinted that in the next six months, thhe APC will have 28 governors and CRS will not be an exception.

Others who spoke at the event include the immediate past Special Adviser to the governor of CRS on NGO’s and civil societies, Margaret Ebokpo and the representative of the state party chairman who said the time has come when people must make sacrifices and leave their comfort zones for the benefit of the people.

The event which had in attendance,a former Secretay to the State Govenrment, SG, Johnson Ebokpo, former chairman of the LGA, Chris Obasse and Ernest Irek a former House of Reps member, featured the official decoration of Achigbe in APC colours. He had earlier paid a visit to the clan head of his community where prayers were offered for him.
