Efenji Odey, one of the aspirants to the state Chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State, but appears to have dropped that ambition under very unclear circumstances, has carpeted the party and those he described as “Senior Stakeholders” of the party for being behind the problems of the party in the state.
In a written document currently in circulation, Odey listed former Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma – Egba, Eyo Etim Nyong, John Owan Enoh, former Niger Delta Affairs minister, Usani Uguru Usani, Alex Egbona, Okoi Obono-Obla, Maurice Effiwatt “and many others”, as “being complacent over the antics of H.E. Ben Ayade.” Odey, a former Permanent Secretary in the CRS Civil Service, was specific that, “none of you was willing to confront and advice him (Ayade) on the best way forward. I entered the race of Chairmanship (sic) to protect the indigenous APC members, but it was not to be as the new entrants from PDP have taken everything.”
Odey continued: “My candid advice to you is that, wherever the Chairmanship is zoned to, it should be an indigenous APC members to instill the sense of equity, justice and peace.”
This document clearly validates flying speculations that state governor, Ben Ayade, has hijacked the APC in CRS and reserved choice party positions for a retinue of persons who recently followed suit as the governor decamped from the PDP to the APC. Insider sources maintain that the governor has completed plans to make Alphonsus Eba, one of his cronies, the new state chairman of the party with the zoning of that position to Yala, Eba’s LGA, all but confirming this information. It has sparked suppressed pockets of resistance within the party, with those who have long functioned within the party feeling schemed out in a grand design by the governor to have the party only do what he personally pleases.
