Special Adviser on Budget Implementation and acting Chairman, Internal Revenue Service, Cross River State, Dr. Peter Oti has exclusively informed www.calitown.com that the complete automation of the state’s tax system, will be achieved soon to help bolster revenue in the state.
Oti who spoke in his office, last Tuesday afternoon, said if the complete automation is achieved, revenue officers in the employ of the state will no longer handle cash and therefore be free from the unfortunate situation of tampering with government’s revenue for personal reasons. Already, he disclosed, the deployment of the Point of Sale, PoS system in the collection of taxes, is yielding fruits and has shored up revenue. The automation of the collecting system he further said, “is helping us monitor what is happening in the field. Immediately money is collected via any of the deployed PoS machines, it is reflected in our system in the headquarters here and we now have a good idea of how much revenue can be collected in a particular area, based on the data in our possession that we analyse at the end of the day. It is helping us plan”.
On the issuance of tax clearance certificates, the IRS boss was categorical that the automation process makes it possible for applications to be treated and certificates sent by electronic mail to the applicant, avoiding completely the time often wasted with the manual process that use to be in place. He called on the public to avail themselves of this services so that government can better deliver on her promises.
