Utuo Peter Amiye, Clan Head of Busi Clan in Obanliku Local Government, North of Cross River State, has lamented years of neglect by government, insisting that after the Donald Duke administraion, no governor of the state or governorship candidate has visited his community or his palace since the creation of the state.
The Clan Head made this disclosure when the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Eyo Ekpo, paid him a courtesy visit in his palace. The worried traditional chief, decried the state of the Ranch since Donald Duke left office and said the people expected more from subsequent regimes considering the foundation that was laid from 1999. He also came clear that if any government in the state is serious, she will able to discover the huge revenue potentials of the area.
Eyo Ekpo at the visit said it is regrettable that the Ranch, a symbol of what tourism in Nigeria should be, has been allowed to deteriorate and waste away because of the lack of vision on the part of the government.
Ekpo who said he was in the home of the Clan Head for consultations, said he is aware of the challenges facing the area and that his government, if elected, will work towards solving them.
“In the last three years we have not had local government councils in Cross River State and as a former Attorney-General of this state I know how that has been impeding the growth of the state; the lack of local government councils and a disregard for the traditional stools usually make the work of the security operatives very difficult. I am aware of the potentials that the land and people of Obanliku have and I am ready to exploit it to the fullest, so that the people of Obanliku and indeed the rest of Cross River State can once again benefit”, Ekpo stated
Highpoint of the visit were prayers for Eyo Ekpo by the clan head and his counsel of chiefs to have a peaceful campaign.
