The Cross River State Government has stoutly rejected the state’s inclusion, by the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, among the list of 10 states in Nigeria affected by cholera outbreak.
Henry Egbe Ayuk, Commissioner for Health, CRS, faulted the state’s listing during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Calabar.
Ayuk said there had been no reported case of the epidemic in the state since the last incident on January 29, 2024.
“I don’t know where they got their information from, but I can tell you that there has been no case of cholera here since the last one we had in January, when one life was lost. I repeat, there is no confirmation of any case of cholera in Cross River.”
The commissioner alleged that the NCDC relied on old data to include the state among the affected states.
Recall that the Director-General of the NCDC, Jide Idris, had on Tuesday, this week, listed 10 states, Lagos, Bayelsa, Zamfara, Abia, Bauchi, Delta, Katsina, Imo, Nasarawa including Cross River, as states affected by the disease outbreak, a listing CRS has since said disagrees with.
