Exactly 49 days to the commencement of the annual Calabar Christmas Festival, the state government will today October 12, 2013, unveil officially the Festival, theme and programme of events for this year, calitown.com can authoritatively reveal.
The ceremony which will starts at 1 p.m, will hold at the main bowl of the Cultural Centre, Calabar.
The Calabar Christmas Festival, an annual event that begins on December 1 to New Year’s day, has a rich mix of activities which normally take residents and visitors through the 31 days of the Festival. In the past, A-list international stars like R’n’B crooner, Joe, South African award winning saxophonist, Hugh Masekela, Convict Music CEO, Akon, etc, have teamed up with fan favourites, P-square, Koko Master, D’banj and several other Nigerian acts to whet the musical appetite of all comers.
However, the Festival has become more popular for its Carnival Calabar offering, unarguably the biggest street party in Africa, drawing a combined one million plus spectators and participants, to Calabar. Calitown.com has also been informed that the first dry run of the Carnival will take place this Sunday, following Saturday’s unveiling. It is expected that the 2013 edition of the Festival will also deliver on the high entertainment value the Festival has come to represent, over time.
