Victor Adugba Agwu, the Cross River State Commissioner for Special Projects and Duties, says the Monorail project of the Cross River State Government will be commissioned on or before February 14, 2016.
Agwu who stated this while briefing newsmen in his office, disclosed that the commissioning which had earlier been slated for December 20th 2015, could not take place due to power supply challenges encountered at the project site.
He revealed that the problem has been resolved and that the Monorail which is about ninety eight percent (98%) completed, is almost set for commissioning.
On the sustainability of the project, the Commissioner disclosed that part of the contract with the company responsible for the installation is to ensure that staff are properly trained. He explained that after commissioning, the company will be on ground for up to two years to ensure that designated Cross Riverians have been adequately trained “to carry on the running and management of the Monorail thereafter”.
He further maintained that the original design of the Monorail is a twelve (12) km rail, running from the Margaret Ekpo International Airport to TINAPA Resort, which he said is just the first phase of the project.
He debunked claims making the rounds that the Monorail is an “elitist project” and assured the people of Cross River State that the project will add value to the tourism drive of the State by rejuvenating the activities of the TINAPA Resort which will in turn boost the Socio-economic profile of the State.
