The Cross River State University of Technology branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has just adopted a “No Pay, No Work” motion, withdrawing their services from the institution with the rider that their services will only resume when the last coin owed them from their December 2014 salary is paid, www.calitown.com can reveal.
Arising from their Congress this afternoon, ASUU, CRUTECH chapter, bemoaned the state of things in the institution and seem to be at a loss over the treatment meted out to them by the Cross River State Government, owner of the institution. Particularly the union is irked by the persistent inability of government and authorities of the institution to pay staff salaries and allowances, when due. Members of the union in the institution, we can report, are going through very hard times because of the situation, prompting one lecturer to say that, “morale among us is at the lowest ebb”.
Students of the institution will be hard hit, especially now that it doesn’t appear that the finances of the state are healthy. This downing of tools has been in the cards for long and the downing of tools by the lecturers may need very definite action to be reversed.
