Former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the Peoples Demicratic Party in the last general election, Atiku Abubakar, says he has “… seen the alleged assault video involving Sen. Elisha Abbo. The video is sad, inexcusable. I know the Senator quite well. But the law is clear and leaders must lead by example. I advise him to publicly apologize, voluntarily go to the police and show a good example expected of a young leader. I also call on our party, the PDP, to take necessary disciplinary action and the Nigerian Police to ensure the law takes its full course.”
Atiku’s reaction on his verified Facebook page is coming on the heels of a viral video released by leading online news portal, Premium Times, which showed 41-year old Elisha Alobo, the youngest senator in Nigeria, assaulting and causing the arrest of a pregnant young lady in an Abuja sex shop.
Premium Times reported that, “Elisha Abbo, representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, descended on the woman after she pleaded with him not to physically assault the shop owner whom the senator had accused of insulting him. He said the shop owner called him a drunk before the assault, which occurred on May 11 — nearly three months after Mr Abbo became a senator-elect and a month before he was sworn-in on June 11.
The attack happened as an armed mobile police officer looked on, and instead made attempt to arrest the victim. Police authorities have since withdrawn and arrested the police officer.
